McLaren’s Lando Norris is to join rivals Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly at the back of the Italian Grand Prix grid after taking on fresh engine components.

On Friday morning it was confirmed that Norris’ MCL34 had been fitted with all bar new Control Electronics, meaning he takes on an automatic back-of-the-grid sanction.

The British rookie looked set for his highest ever finish last weekend in Belgium, but on the very last lap of the race, whilst running a comfortable fifth, his Renault unit shut down, forcing him to retire.

His McLaren team-mate Carlos Sainz also suffered engine troubles at Spa, but McLaren and Renault have been able to salvage his engine.

It was confirmed earlier in the week that Red Bull driver Verstappen and Toro Rosso counterpart Gasly will be relegated to the back thanks to using Honda’s Spec 4 engine.

Their team-mates, Alexander Albon and Daniil Kvyat, both took on ths Spec 4 unit last weekend, serving their grid penalties there.
