Marcus Armstrong dominated from pole position to win the Belgian FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps.

The New Zealander got a solid start from the grid and was able to gap the field quickly until the safety car intervened on lap 4, after MP Motorsport's Simo Laaksonen crashed heavily at Blanchemont.

After the Dutchman's car had been pulled out from the barrier, the race got back underway on lap 9. Armstrong still had more pace over his rivals behind to pull away and take the win by 4.5 seconds.

Yuki Tsunoda finished in second after a tough battle with title-contender Robert Shwartzman and ART's Christian Lundgaard in the final laps.

Tsunoda initially lost out to Lundgaard with three laps to go, however, the Japanese driver fought back and managed to make a gap to cross the line in second place.

Shwartzman made his move on the final lap of the race on Lundgaard as the Russian driver sold the Dane a dummy into the Les Combes chicane.

He swept around the outside of the ART to snatch the final spot on the podium as well as an extra two points to extend his lead at the top of the championship, Lundgaard would have to settle for fourth place.

Jehan Daruvala was unable to join the three-way battle for second in front of him and would cross the line in fifth, losing more points to Prema team-mate Shwartzman in the title battle.

Feature Race winner Pedro Piquet would finish in sixth place ahead of Leonardo Pulcini.

Carlin's Teppei Natori was able to fend off team-mate Felipe Drugovich for eighth place to collect his first point of the season.

Ye Yifei would round out the top 10 for Hitech Grand Prix.

The biggest mover of the race was Alexander Peroni after starting at the back in 30th place, he would finish in 15th.

Title contender Juri Vips would score no points after losing his front wing at the bus stop on the safety car restart.

There were numerous incidents which would be investigated after the race which included the collision on the opening lap between Logan Sargeant and Liam Lawson at the Bus Stop.

Trident's Devlin DeFrancesco also crashed into the side of HWA Racelab's Jake Hughes at the Les Combes chicane.

Also, the two Sauber Junior Team by Charouz cars as of Lirim Zendeli and Raul Hyman also collided as they tried to avoid Sargeant who had a puncture on lap 15.

FIA Formula 3 will return to action on September 6-8 in Monza, Italy.
