Christensen: Some concern new Porsche could be off pace

Michael Christensen has some concern that Porsche's introduction of the new GTE Pro challenger could mirror Aston Martin's predicament during the Super Season.

The German marque's new 911 RSR-19 is making its competitive debut during tomorrow's 4 Hours of Silverstone, with the #92 duo of Christensen and Kevin Estre coming in to defend its championship crown. There is some concern, however, that the introduction of the new car could lead to a similar situation to their British rivals. Aston Martin introduced their new Vantage AMR at the start of the 2018/19 Super Season, and spent the first part of the season off pace to their rivals.

When asked about it by Motorsport Week, the Dane admitted that he was worried about a similar situation.

"Yeah, of course. We, or I, have that concern," Christensen said. "You wouldn’t like that. Of course you wouldn’t like to be off pace. You would like to fight for every race win, like we did last year.

That’s of course the goal, but if it’s realistic or not, it’s hard to say. But of course there’s been a concern that we’re not where we wanted to be, but the car feels good now, so pretty optimistic."

Although the main focus for the successful duo is title defence, Christensen admitted that this weekend's 4 Hours of Silverstone will mostly be about car development.

"The first goal will be to get out of the first round with a decent result. I mean, our goal is to win, every race, our goal is to win. If that’s realistic or not, we’ll see. I don’t know yet, we’ll have to see, the further into the session we get and into the weekend we get."

"I’m optimistic with our car, I’m really happy with what we have learned and where we are now. Of course, knowing that it’s a new car, hopefully there’s a lot of potential in it, but I feel good in it."
