Marcos Ramirez scored his second victory of the season in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, defeating Tony Arbolino and Lorenzo Dalla Porta on the final lap.

Ramirez was a staple of the leading group throughout the 17 lap contest having started from ninth on the grid, though it was Leopard Racing team-mate Dalla Porta who led the way for most of the race.

The championship leader wrestled the lead away from pole-man Arbolino towards the end of the first lap, and used his seemingly superior straight line performance to lead the most tours of the 3.6 mile Silverstone circuit.

The pair fought over the lead along with John McPhee, while Ramirez bided his time a few positions further back.

The Spaniard began to make progress in the closing stages though, and began to challenge for the lead with just a couple of laps remaining.

The crucial moment though was Dalla Porta running wide on entry to the Vale/Club chicane, allowing Ramirez through into the lead.

Dalla Porta and Arbolino then began to fight across the remaining corners, allowing Ramirez a small advantage which was enough to take hold on to secure victory ahead of Arbolino and Dalla Porta, who extends his championship lead after title rival Aron Canet hit trouble.

Canet was knocked down by Albert Arenas, who had lost the front of his Bester Capital KTM, into Village corner and was forced to pick his bike up and re-join.

Despite losing significant time, he was incredibly able to fight back and cross the line 13th, meaning he takes three crucial points to limit the damage to Dalla Porta to 14 in the riders standings.

Niccolo Antonelli led home SIC58 team-mate Tatsuki Suzuki in fourth and fifth places respectively, while Ayumu Sasaki was able to get the best of Petronas SRT stable mate McPhee for sixth.

Dennis Foggia led home the second VR46 machine of Celestino Vietti for eighth, while Ai Ogura rounded out the top ten for the Honda Team Asia squad.
