Fabio Quartararo shattered the Silverstone MotoGP lap record to top FP2, though his lap was initially deleted over track limits, putting Marc Marquez at the head of the timings.
Marquez was on the pace immediately, shaving nearly half-a-second from his best FP1 effort to record a 2:00.186 to lead the times early on.
Most riders then focussed on long runs for the bulk of the 45 minute practice, prioritising the hard compound Michelin, before qualifying simulations became the order heading into the closing minutes.
Maverick Vinales then banged in a 1:59.765 to move to the head of the standings, before Marquez posted a 1:59.476 to take a top spot before crashing at Vale.
Quartararo then moved to the top with an incredible time of 1:59.225, but the time was deleted over claims of track limits abuses. However on review, the SRT Yamaha rider had the time reinstated to top the session.
Vinales held on for the third fastest time ahead of Valentino Rossi, who also fell foul of track limits only to have his time reinstated too, putting him fourth fastest ahead of Cal Crutchlow and the factory Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso.
Franco Morbidelli once again looked strong in seventh, while Miguel Oliveira set a stunning eighth fastest time for the Tech 3 KTM squad.
Jack Miller was ninth ahead of Danilo Petrucci, while Aleix Espargaro managed to lift his Aprilia into the top 12 despite breaking down earlier in the session.
Espargaro’s RS-GP expired on the approach to Brooklands early on, forcing him to run through the gravel and return to the pits. He managed to get back out to re-join the session on his spare machine.
Johann Zarco showed decent speed with the 14th fastest time with Jorge Lorenzo continuing to get himself re-aquainted with his Honda, setting the 21st quickest time ahead of only Karel Abraham, who crashed once again- this time at Turn 18.
Alex Rins also struggled for pace in this session as he closed out the session down in 13th.
