Jorge Lorenzo will return to action at this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone having recovered sufficiently from his back injury sustained at the Dutch TT in June.
Lorenzo fractured his T6 and T8 vertebrae in his fearsome Assen practice crash, where he crashed at high-speed and slid into the gravel. H
He has been out of action ever since, having been replaced at the factory Honda squad by test rider Stefan Bradl.
The German scored points in all three appearances replacing the three-time MotoGP world champion, with a best result of tenth coming at his home race of the German grand prix at the Sachsenring.
The Honda team have announced that he will return to action, with the key objective stated as getting the Mallorcan more comfortable with the RC213-V.
He has struggled significantly to tame the Honda in his first year competing on the machine having just come off a triple-race winning campaign with the factory Ducati squad.
Lorenzo has failed to breach the top ten so far this year, with his best placing of 11th coming at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.
He looked to have made a step forward at the Catalan GP, challenging for a podium position early before instigating a multi-rider crash that involved Andrea Dovizioso and both factory Yamaha’s.
He then picked up his back injury during practice for the Dutch TT, and will head into the Silverstone race just 19th in the rider’s standings with 19 points.
