Austria to remain on MotoGP calendar until at least 2025

MotoGP will continue to visit the Red Bull Ring in Austria until at least 2025, Dorna announced at the circuit following qualifying.

MotoGP returned to Austria after a near two decade break -the last race being held at the then-called A1 Ring in 1997 – in 2016.

The event has turned out to be a huge success, therefore leading Dietrich Mateschitz – CEO of circuit owner Red Bull – and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta to shake hands on a new deal that covers the next five years.

“It makes me very happy to announce that we will be returning to this track until at least 2025,” said Ezpeleta.

“I think everyone would agree it’s one of the most beautiful circuits in the world and it’s a pleasure for us to race here.

"The facilities and organisation are excellent, the grandstands are packed and the atmosphere is really unique here in Spielberg – I look forward to many more years working together.”

Ducati have won all three Austrian races held since its ’16 resurrection, with the slow corners leading onto long straights that make up the vast majority of the 4.5km circuit proving to play into the Desmosedici’s strengths.

Marc Marquez will start from pole for this year’s edition of the race, the reigning five-time premier class champion aiming to secure his first ever victory at the venue having won at all other circuits on the current MotoGP calendar.
