Ott Tanak not getting carried away with points lead

Ott Tanak isn't getting carried away by his World Rally Championship points lead, insisting anything can change in the upcoming events.

The Estonian has taken four victories and a second place in nine rallies to hold a 22-point lead over reigning champion Sebastien Ogier, but with five rallies still to run, Tanak's focus remains on improving and not thinking about his first WRC title.

"This weekend we had a perfect event so maximum points are good but there are still five events to go and that’s a long way,” the Toyota driver told the official WRC website.

"Nothing is healthy at the moment and I’m sure the other guys will be very competitive in the other events.

"We’ve seen this weekend that our opponents have upgraded their pace. I would say especially Hyundai was very strong. Normally they would be struggling here but the pace they did was impressive, so we need to keep pushing as well.

“Thierry [Neuville] and Seb, I know them well enough to know that they will push to the limit. The closer it gets to them, the more they start to push, so we need to keep working."

Tanak dominated the rally, finishing more than 25 seconds ahead of Esapekka Lappi and now heads into Rally Deutschland – an event he won in 2017 and 2018 – as favourite.
