Sam Bird: Third in Teams’ Championship is a credit to Envision Virgin Racing

Sam Bird has said that Envision Virgin Racing's third place finish in the Season 5 Teams' Championship is a credit to the British marque.

Envision Virgin Racing completed Formula E's fifth season of competition as a customer team for the first time, with DS Automobiles partnering Techeetah for the 2018/19 campaign after previously being paired with the Richard Branson-backed Virgin squad from Seasons 2-4.

Taking wins in Santiago, Paris and New York, Envision Virgin was the only team on the grid to have both drivers win a race while the team's customer Audi e-Tron FE05 powertrain secured a total of five victories in 13 races.

A strong showing of performance in New York saw Robin Frijns secure his second victory of the season while fourth for Bird delivered the outfit with third in the Teams' Championship, beating Nissan e.dams by 1 point.

"[Race 2] was another good result for me and the team in New York and I am delighted to say that we finished third in the Teams’ Championship, which is an amazing achievement considering this was our first season as an independent team," said Bird.

"We’ve had very little testing compared to other teams so to come away with this result is even better and a credit to everybody at Envision Virgin Racing.

"Thank you to everybody who has supported us this season, especially our fans, and we are looking forward to stronger and better results in Season 6.”

For Season 6, which will commence on November 22 in Ad Diriyah, Envision Virgin Racing will maintain its current driver lineup, with both Frijns and Bird re-signing with the team for Formula E's second season of its new generation.
