#67 Ford snaps Porsche’s undefeated streak with late Lime Rock win

The #67 Ford GT of Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe has taken victory in the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, snapping Porsche's undefeated streak by passing the #912 Porsche in the final ten minutes of the race.

Porsche looked to be the favorites for a long time, until the pair of 911 RSRs lost time in traffic in the second hour, which allowed the two Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs to catch back up and eventually take the lead as both Porsches made their final pitstop.

Ford then made the inspired decision to bring Richard Westbrook's #67 car in for one extra stop for fuel and tyres, which allowed him to chase after the Porsches, who were at a disadvantage with older and rapidly degrading Michelin tyres.

A pair of mistakes from the #911 of Patrick Pilet then put Westbrook in second place and on the hunt for the leading Earl Bamber, who put up a strong fight despite his fading tyres. After several attempts, Westbrook made the pass and took the lead, snapping a five-race winning streak for Porsche.

Joey Hand finished third in the #66 Ford ahead of Pilet, with the #3 Corvette of Antonio Garcia the only GTLM runner left on the lead lap. The #4 of Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fässler finished sixth, with the pair of BMW M8 GTEs bringing up the rear.

In GT Daytona, PFAFF Racing took a dramatic photo-finish victory over the #86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura, which led the race for most of the two hours and forty minutes before Mario Farnbacher was passed by Porsche's Dennis Olsen in the #9 911 GT3 R. Farnbacher tried his best to regain the lead in the final minutes, which almost saw him lose control of his Acura NSX GT3 Evo after bumping into Olsen.

Bill Auberlen finished third in the #96 BMW M6 GT3, with the top five completed by the #73 Park Place and #91 Wright Motorsport Porsches.

The race remained caution-free throughout, despite a number of offs for several contenders. Corey Lewis went off in the early stages in the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini, and Jeroen Bleekemolen had a spin in the final hour, dropping out of podium contention in the #33 Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3.
