Jamie Chadwick supports idea behind W Series joining F1 support bill

W Series championship leader Jamie Chadwick says expanding the series’ reach, potentially onto the Formula 1 support package, would be beneficial for the category.

The all-female W Series was launched for 2019 and races on the DTM support bill, effectively replacing the now-defunct European Formula 3 Championship.

Formula 1 grands prix typically feature Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup on its support bill at European rounds, while other series make selected appearances.

Chadwick has taken two wins from four races in W Series to lead Beitske Visser by 10 points, with just two events remaining at Assen and Brands Hatch.

Speaking to Motorsport Week, Chadwick said: "I think that would be really cool, it's definitely no secret W Series are trying to expand the championship as much as possible.

"We've got a great relationship with DTM and we're doing a great job on their package at the moment.

"But if we can start to expand that, potentially to come onto an F1 race weekend that'd be cool."

Chadwick currently occupies positions with Williams in Formula 1 – as its Development Driver – and with Aston Martin, as a junior driver.

When asked whether a move into the FIA’s Formula 3 Championship was an option for 2020,

Chadwick said: "It's definitely it's something we're looking at, obviously the budgets for it are pretty high, but hopefully some opportunities arise.

"It's great being finished in August [After W Series finale] as it'll give me so much time to prepare for the next step. We'll have to see where we end up after Brands Hatch.
