Mitch Evans believes that the ABB FIA Formula E Championship's Season 5 title fight is far from over as the 2018/19 campaign comes to a close this weekend in New York.
The Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver currently sits in third in the Drivers' Championship and is one of eight drivers who can mathematically win the Season 5 crown in the Red Hook neighbourhood of Brooklyn.
Evans claimed both his and Jaguar's maiden Formula E victory this season in Rome while a return to the podium at last month's Swiss E-Prix ensured that the Kiwi will be one of this season's title protagonists.
While DS Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne currently leads the Drivers' Championship, Evans trails the Frenchman by 43 points although 58 points are still on offer in the all-electric series' double-header season finale this weekend.
"Returning to the podium in Switzerland proved that we have the speed to compete at the very front in Formula E," said Evans.
"This has given us a lot of confidence going into the last two races in New York. I qualified on the front row there last year and I really like the track in Brooklyn.
"There is a big gap to Jean-Eric [Vergne] in the points but I prefer to be the hunter than the hunted. If we get a big points haul on Saturday it will be all to play for on Sunday.
"I really have nothing to lose. I’ve finished every race this year and I am ready to fight for this championship. It is not over by a long way."
While Evans can take the Drivers' title, Jaguar Racing is mathematically out of contention for the Teams' Championship. Sitting in seventh and with 94 points available, however, the British marque can still mathematically finish the season in second, trailing Audi by 75 points.
"Following my best result for Panasonic Jaguar Racing in Bern, I’m heading into the New York double-header with a lot of confidence," added Alex Lynn.
"With Mitch pushing for the Championship title, my main focus is on picking up as many points as possible for the team, maintaining the positive run we’ve seen in the second half of this season. If I am in the points that leaves less chances for Mitch’s title rivals."
The New York City E-Prix will take place on July 13 and 14 and marks the final weekend of racing in Formula E's fifth season of competition.
