Marc Marquez ‘convinced’ tenth Sachsenring win was possible

Marc Marquez says he was ‘convinced’ before the start of the German GP at the Sachsenring that he would be able to win as he ‘had the best bike’.

The Honda man secured his tenth victory at the 2.2 mile circuit-his seventh in the premier class- by 4.5 seconds over the Yamaha of Maverick Vinales, leading every lap from pole.

Despite looking like he could be challenged in the opening couple of laps Marquez soon got the hammer down and started to pull away from his pursuers, at one point pulling half-a-second per lap on his nearest challengers after closest threat Alex Rins crashed his Suzuki at Turn 11 with just over a third of the race remaining.

Marquez said after the race that he was confident of victory throughout the weekend as he believed the Honda was the fastest bike around the fast, flowing Sachsenring track, a point backed up by fellow RC213-V rider Cal Crutchlow securing third.

“This weekend we did everything in the correct way, sometimes you have some gap but here it was very clear,” said Marquez.

“Sometimes I’ve said this bike was better or worse (than their competitors) but here we had the best bike for the track, conditions and everything so I knew we needed to take advantage and me and Cal got the podium.

“I was convinced. In the rain conditions you never know, but all the forecasts said the race would be dry so I was never worried; it was just in the early laps I was careful with the front tire.

“In the first two laps I was very slow, which was just to warm the tire, and I started to push from the third lap and the lead started to increase step by step, so I’m happy.”

Marquez’s win means he extends his championship advantage to 58 over Andrea Dovizioso, who finished fifth, as the MotoGP circus enters the three-week summer break before heading to Brno for the Czech GP.
