Arjun Maini returns to the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Campos Racing after leaving the series at the end of 2018.

The Haas Development Driver will take over the seat from Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci to link up British-Korean driver Jack Aitken.

Maini spent the first half of 2019 racing sportscars, becoming the youngest Indian driver to race at the 24 hours of Le Mans with RLR Motorsport in the LMP2 class.

The 21-year old enjoyed success in India before coming to Europe where he claimed the Vice-Championship in the British Formula 4 Championship behind last season’s F2 champion and now Williams Formula 1 driver, George Russell.

Maini spent several seasons in the former FIA F3 European Championship before joining GP3, which is now FIA Formula 3, where he became the first Indian driver to win a race in the series.

He also has previous experience with the current F2 car after racing for Trident in 2018 where he was team-mates with now IndyCar driver Santino Ferrucci. The pair clashed heavily, culminating in Ferrucci's departure from the team.

“As I have always stated, Formula One remains my ultimate aim," said Maini. "We made a decision to try something different this year and irrespective of the results, I believe it has worked for the best as my time in the LMP2 car has definitely helped prepare me for the future.

“I'm looking forward to these next few weeks and I hope I can put my best foot forward in both rounds. I know that joining mid-season without any testing is not easy for anyone but I am prepared to take on the Challenge."
