Hour 4 at Le Mans: Toyota leads as LMP2 battle heats up

With four of the twenty four hours gone at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, Toyota continue to lead one-two. The #7 TS050 Hybrid of Kamui Kobayashi is ahead of the #8 of Fernando Alonso, but the Spaniard is somewhat clawing back his colleague's advantage with a series of quick laps in the fourth hour.

Rebellion Racing's Nathanaël Berthon continues to be in third, barely on the lead lap. The pair of SMP Racing entries are currently fourth and fifth, with Stoffel Vandoorne ahead of Egor Orudzhev. Andre Lotterer has made it back to the tail of the LMP1 field, but is three laps down after earlier issues. Dragonspeed is even further down in 28th overall and eight laps behind.

In LMP2, the fourth hour was dominated by a thrilling battle for the lead between Signatech Alpine's Pierre Thiriet and G-Drive rookie Job van Uitert. The Dutchman passed Thiriet for the lead at the very start of the hour, but handed it back to the Alpine after a 10 second penalty. However, the 2018 LMP3 champion quickly closed the gap back down and currently leads again. Gabriel Aubry is currently third in the #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca.

ARC Bratislava's Henning Enqvist had a bit of a hairy moment exiting Indianapolis, running wide and clipping the tyre barrier. He had to report back to the pits for a new nose.

In GTE Pro, the battle for the lead has really heated up. Corvette still leads at the hand of Mike Rockenfeller, but was facing serious pressure from Ferrari's Daniel Serra and Earl Bamber and Patrick Pilet from Porsche. Ford suffered an unfortunate break this hour as Jonathan Bomarito was penalized for an unsafe release. The American had to serve a drivethrough in the #67.

The running order in GTE Am remains unchanged. 2018 winners Dempsey-Proton Competition are still leading with Julien Andlauer piloting the #77 Porsche 911 RSR. Keating Motorsports are still chasing, with Felipe Fraga currently second in the #85 Ford GT. JMW Motorsport remains third in the #84 Ferrari with Wei Lu at the helm.
