Porsche will be unveiling the 992 iteration of its 911 RSR GTE car at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The current specification of the 911 RSR was introduced in 2017 and was notable for the engine placement, which was in front of the rear axle, unlike a more traditional 911 engine layout.

During a friday afternoon press conference at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Pascal Zurlinden, Porsche's Director of GT Factory Motorsports, revealed that the new version of the RSR, likely to be based upon Porsche's new 992 roadcar, will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The 2019 edition of the popular event will take place between the 4th and 7th of July.

The confirmation brings a possible end to speculation fuelled by shots of a revised 911 RSR seen testing at Monza last month.

Since 2017, Porsche has enjoyed great success with the 911 RSR, first winning at Lime Rock Park in the IMSA Weathertech Championship, before going on to take victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Petit Le Mans.

Using the 911 RSR, Porsche has already locked down the GT Manufacturer's Championship in 2019. The driver's title is set to be decided at Le Mans this weekend in a direct fight between the #91 of Gianmaria Bruni and the #92 of Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen.
