Maverick Vinales has announced that he will be working with five-time World Champion Jorge Lorenzo across the 2026 MotoGP season.
Vinales has introduced Lorenzo as part of his team ahead of 2026, with the former World Champion joining in the role of a performance coach.
The agreement was rumoured during the final round of the 2025 MotoGP campaign at Valencia; however, it has now been officially confirmed after an agreement was reached between both parties.
Vinales has often been cited as one of MotoGP’s biggest talents, but has been unable to live up to his billing consistently, which is one of the key factors in Lorenzo’s appointment.
In a joint statement, the Spanish pair revealed the key goals for the collaboration are to get Vinales prepared to fight to become MotoGP World Champion.
Lorenzo will work alongside Vinales across three key areas: physical and athletic preparation, strategic coaching and technical-sport development.
It will be Lorenzo’s first role working within MotoGP since his brief role as Yamaha test rider in 2020, following his retirement from full-time racing at the end of the 2019 season.
“Bringing Jorge into this journey is a huge opportunity to learn and improve in every aspect,” Vinales said via Instagram.
“His experience and outside perspective will help us take confident steps forward.
“I’m starting this new stage with great motivation and excitement.”
Lorenzo added: “Maverick has always had natural talent and great speed.
“My role is to accompany him, share my experience and knowledge, and help him reach his best version.
“I strongly believe that if we improve in each of the key areas, success will be inevitable.”
