Rene Rast triumphs for Audi at second Zolder race

Rene Rast has taken his second DTM victory of the season at Zolder, finishing ahead of Philipp Eng and stablemate Jamie Green on his way to the chequered flag.

The race began with rookie Sheldon van der Linde on pole position. The South African was able to hold off Rast and a surging Eng to maintain the lead in the early stages, but was passed by the German on lap eleven. Rast then beat Van der Linde on the overcut to hold position and retook the lead of the race when Marco Wittmann ended Robin Frijns' race early.

The German punted Frijns into the barrier on the exit of turn one, earning a drive-through penalty which gladly handed the lead back to Rast.

After the safety car, Rast endured brief pressure from both Van der Linde and Eng before cruising off to take a comfortable win. Van der Linde, meanwhile, was passed by both Jamie Green and Mike Rockenfeller on the final lap, leaving him down in sixth place ahead of Aston Martin's Jake Dennis, who was the only R-Motorsport driver to see out the race.

Both Habsburg and Juncadella retired with mechanical issues, while Di Resta didn't start at all after an engine issue in qualifying left him unable to compete. The retirees were joined by Timo Glock, who suffered an issue of his own in the closing stages.

The top ten was completed by Bruno Spengler, Nico Müller, Pietro Fittipaldi and Joel Eriksson, with Loic Duval, Jonathan Aberdein and Wittmann the last of the classified finishers.
