McLaren's Fernando Alonso let out an honest statement after dropping into Sunday's final row shootout due to a troublesome day while trying to qualify for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Alonso missed out on the automatic qualifying spots by just 0.02mph behind Clauson-Marshall Racing's Pippa Mann who rounded out the top 30.
After attempting more runs, Alonso had been able to improve but remained on the bubble in 30th place but was knocked by Dreyer & Reinbold's JR Hildebrand after he greatly improved with minutes to spare, leaving the Spaniard on the outside looking in.
The double Formula 1 World Champion will go into Sunday with just one chance to make it into the Indy 500 with a shootout involving five other drivers including the Carlin duo of Patricio O'Ward and Max Chilton, D&R's Sage Karem, Juncos Racing's Kyle Kaiser, and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' James Hinchcliffe.
If the weather permits, drivers will be allowed just 30mins of practice before their one-shot qualifying runs which will take place in the order they were drawn on Sunday which will be – Hinchcliffe, Chilton, Alonso, Karem, O'Ward, and Kaiser.
"So yeah, not much we can do at the moment, you know," said Alonso.
"Tomorrow we'll try to do these four laps clean, no mistakes, try to be flat all four, and then if it's enough to be in the top three of the six, we'll take it, and we will try to do a good race.
"If it's not enough and we are fourth of six, it's what we deserve. There were maybe three cars quicker than us. So nothing we can do more than that.
"Try to execute the runs tomorrow the best we can, and the same thing we did today, stay calm, stay focused, and yeah, try to do a good job."
