Ott Tanak has taken dominant victory at Rally Chile, while Sebastien Ogier kept second place out of the clutches of Sebastien Loeb.

Tanak enjoyed the new event in his Yaris unlike many of the competitors that struggled to get to grips with the unfamiliar stages, taking his second victory of 2019.

After picking up the full five powerstage points Tanak moves into second in the championship, 10 points behind leader Ogier.

There were 5.1 seconds between Ogier and Loeb going into Sunday, which the Hyundai driver managed to cut down to 1.1 seconds in the first running of the Bio Bio stage.

However the gap increased as the morning ran on and the second fastest time from Ogier on the powerstage, despite the unusual incident of his fire extinguisher going off in the car, allowed him to keep the place by over seven seconds.

Chile marks Loeb’s first podium for the Hyundai team.

The M-Sport pair of Elfyn Evans and Teemu Suninen ended the rally in fourth and fifth, a success for the team considering the struggles the drivers faced heading into an all-new rally.

Esapekka Lappi finished in sixth, his C3 struggled on the morning's low grip stages, and the Finn was denied any powerstage points after a spin on what was set to be a very good time.

Andreas Mikkelsen blamed his over-optimistic pace notes for his lack of confidence all weekend, leaving him in seventh.

Kris Meeke climbed back up to eighth after losing time from a collision with a tree stump on Saturday, passing WRC2 Pro winner Kalle Rovanpera for the position.

Mads Ostberg completed the top 10, nearly 3 minutes ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala who restarted the rally on Sunday after a driveshaft failure on Saturday evening.

Latvala had been running third before the incident but has the consolation of picking up three points on the powerstage.
