Pirelli expects one-stop Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli believes a one-stop strategy will be the quickest way of approaching Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Pirelli has brought the C2 (Hard), C3 (Medium) and C4 (Soft) tyres to the six-kilometre Baku City Circuit, which does not feature many high-speed turns that over-stress the rubber.

Pirelli has outlined that a Soft/Medium approach, pitting on lap 25 of 51, is the optimum strategy, but that a Medium/Soft strategy, stopping on lap 26, is also a strong option.

However it has stressed that there is a “wide window for the pit stop, which means that both strategies could be deployed at any point between laps 15 onwards without loss of performance.”

The top eight drivers on the grid are all set to start on the Soft tyres while ninth-placed Charles Leclerc is poised to use Mediums.

The remainder of the grid – aside from the penalised Antonio Giovinazzi, who must start on the Softs he used to make it through to Q3 – have free choice of starting tyre.
