Team orders at Ferrari has been one of the primary talking points in Formula 1 this season and Charles Leclerc has suggested that he will be inclined to stand his ground.
Leclerc has been instructed to either stay behind, or let through, Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel at each of the three grands prix to be held this season.
In Australia Leclerc remained behind Vettel during the closing stages as their differing strategies converged while in China he allowed his team-mate through in the opening stint.
In Bahrain Leclerc was instructed to remain behind Vettel but instead made a successful overtake for the lead of the race.
When asked whether he would accept further team orders, Leclerc replied: “Depending on the situation. Obviously there will always be team orders in Formula One.
“But, yeah, it depends on the situation. In some situations I will [accept].”
Leclerc went on to comment: “I think it is frustrating when you are in the car and you are told to let another driver past.
“Obviously it is frustrating for anyone driving a racing car who has been told this instruction, on the other hand on my side I understand them in a way and Seb is now in his fifth year with the team and has won four world championships and I am only coming in my second season in Formula One.
“So I have got a lot of things to prove and now it is up to me to do the best job in the car to prove what I am capable of.
“I just need to continue doing what I am doing, to improve myself and hopefully it [the situation] will change soon.”
Leclerc holds fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship, a point behind Vettel.
