Marc Marquez believes his “different riding style” to his brother Alex Marquez allowed the Gresini rider to take victory in the Catalan MotoGP.
Marquez won the Sprint race in Barcelona after brother Alex crashed out of the lead, but lost the opportunity to wrap up the 2025 title in Misano after being defeated in Sunday’s race.
It was just the fifth time this season that the Spanish rider walked away from a weekend without the maximum 37 point tally, and marked his first defeat in a main race since Silverstone.
Marquez admitted while it’s “never easy” for him to accept a loss, his brother “deserved” to win his second race of the season.
“[It’s] never easy [to accept a defeat] because it’s racing,” Marquez said via Autosport.
“I try my maximum and always try to win, but in the end Alex deserved [this result].
“He was coming [off the back of some] strange races since his hand injury. But he is the only Ducati rider who was able to beat me at Silverstone in the Sprint race [and] he was able to beat me today.”
Marquez also suggested the Gresini rider had superior pace around the Barcelona circuit due to his vastly different riding styles, with the Ducati rider generally favouring tracks with more left hand corners.
“Yesterday he was faster than me because his strongest points are my weakest points and the opposite. We are brothers but with different riding styles.”
“He is super strong in my weak points: long right corners, especially Turn 3, Turn 13, 14 and the last two corners,” the 32-year-old explained.
“At Turn 9, he was riding in a super good way, smooth, the bike wasn’t moving [twitching]. I was behind him, [at the] same speed, but fighting against the bike.”

Marc Marquez: ‘Sometimes you try and you can’t win’ despite 2025 MotoGP dominance
Despite his run of seven consecutive victories coming to an end on Sunday, it didn’t come as a surprise to Marquez.
The Spaniard admitted he knew he might not be the fastest rider at the circuit, but was still elated with a second place that maintained his advantage in the championship standings.
“I was telling you since Austria or since the summer break that there will be one day that somebody will be faster than me, and I will need to accept that,” he said.
“So I kept saying that sentence in my head. Today, Davide Tardozzi told me, ‘maybe today is the day [your streak will end]. You will try, you need to try’.
“I tried. You see at Turn 10, I went in and had a big moment, and then I had a flashback of Alex from Saturday.
“I will always try, but sometimes you try and you can’t. Today with Alex, last year with Pecco [Bagnaia in the Solidarity GP].
“But for me, the most important [thing] for a championship is, at a track where I’m struggling, I’m close to the fastest guys.”
Marquez revealed after his second place that he had “the same mentality” heading to Misano, which would be to control the things he is able to do.
“My target is to try to keep the same mentality. Don’t exaggerate, try to control the limits, try to control the bike, try to control all the points.
“Today, it’s true that maybe I was able to go all in, but it was not time to do it. It’s time to keep going, keep the same concentration.
“I was happy because I said on Thursday that there will be a day where I need to accept that somebody is faster than me, and little brother was faster than me this weekend.”
