Additional start lights installed to aid drivers after complaints

The FIA has installed an additional set of start lights at a greatet height in the hope of aiding drivers further down the grid following a number of complaints.

During the season-opening race in Australia, several drivers complained that the new taller rear-wings were blocking the start lights, forcing them to get creative with their race starts, for which many were compromised.

Red Bull's Pierre Gasly had to react when those around him started to move, which resulted in him losing a couple of positions.

"It was a pretty messy start because maybe it was my position but I think also [George] Russell behind me had the same problem and [Robert] Kubica as well but basically the lights were right behind Daniil [Kvyat's] rear-wing so I couldn’t see the lights.

"On the formation lap, they pulled the car back so I could see them and then as I got in my position for the race start, basically I was looking for them and also the lights on the side are really forward on the grid. Basically I had no idea so I just started to release the clutch when I saw the others moving but actually it wasn’t ideal and I think they are planning to raise the starting lights a bit because I think it’s probably going to be an issue on other tracks as well."

The FIA has added an additional set of lights halfway down the grid and position them higher in the hope they are now more visible.

The additional start lights now sit further down the grid and are positioned higher up
