Alex Lynn has been named as Nelson Piquet Jr's replacement at Jaguar Racing, replacing the inaugural Formula E champion with immediate effect.

Piquet joined Jaguar Racing to replace Adam Carroll for Season Five, and after only 18 races for the team, will leave.

After a difficult start to the 2018/19 campaign, Piquet was left in a compromising position, scoring only one point compared to team-mate Mitch Evans' 36 while only finishing inside the top 10 on two occasions in the past 13 E-Prix, taking the chequered flag in only five.

Lynn, who will replace Piquet for the remainder of the season, raced for DS Virgin in the 2017/18 season and experienced a low-key rookie campaign, taking only 17 points before being replaced by Robin Frijns for the team's new Envision Virgin look for Season Five.

“Our objective this season is to be competing for podiums, we have agreed that Alex will join the team from the next event in Rome," said Team Director, James Barclay.

"With half the season remaining we will be pushing very hard for strong results. I would like to welcome Alex to the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team and look forward to working with him.”

Lynn, who currently drives for Aston Martin Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, previously tested for Jaguar at Donington Park in 2016 and was a candidate for one of two seats for the team's inaugural season while the Briton was also poised to test for the team in Mexico City.

“I am really excited to get behind the wheel of the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 in Rome," he the Briton.

"Joining Panasonic Jaguar Racing is a great opportunity for me. I am focused on working with Mitch, the engineers and technicians to put in a strong performance from now until the end of the season.”

The Rome E-Prix will take place on April 13, kick-starting the ABB FIA Formula E Championship's European leg of its present campaign.
