The organisers of the inaugural Korean Grand Prix have hailed the event a resounding success after revealing 80,000 spectators attended. The majority on race day.
Despite reports that the event wouldn’t go ahead after construction delays, last-minute works, changes to the track and horrendous weather conditions, the organisers managed to put on a great show, likely to be remembered for some time.
“We are delighted at the success of the 2010 Formula One Korean Grand Prix, and the enormous, enthusiastic crowd has proved the sport already has a strong fan base here,” said Mr. Yung Cho Chung, KAVO chief executive officer and chairman of the Korean Automobile Association.
“We have overcome several challenges over the last few months, but our work is just beginning.”
He added: “The KIC (Korean International Circuit) is an important new facility for regional and international competition, but also one from which we will both develop the sport from the grass roots, and build a motorsport business and tourism hub.”
