Christian Horner says the Red Bull team must now look at evaluating whether or not it would be wise to employ team-orders to favour Mark Webber.
The Australian currently sits in second, just 11 points behind Fernando Alonso, whilst Sebastian Vettel has slipped behind Lewis Hamilton into fourth, 25 points back.
With just two races remaining and just 50 points up for grabs, the team must play it tactically if they are to secure the championship.
“I haven’t had time to look at all the mathematics and scenarios,” Horner said after the Korean GP where both his drivers failed to score, “It’s something we will obviously look at pretty closely between now and Brazil.
“Clearly the objective for both of them is to be ahead of Fernando [Alonso] and Lewis [Hamilton], as we achieved on Saturday, and as was the case in the race when we looked set for a good result.
“Unfortunately that didn’t happen, and it was a race win that was beyond our control. In the end we gifted Fernando 25 points, which is obviously frustrating, but this is a championship I believe will go down to the last lap in Abu Dhabi.”
However, Horner believes the relatively small gap between Vettel and Alonso, just a race win under the new system, meant the German was still in the race for the title.
“There is still only a race win between Sebastian and Alonso, and how many times have we seen this year the championship to and fro?
“So it’s impossible to have a crystal ball and predict what will happen in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.”
