Formula E rookie Oliver Rowland led the way in free practice one ahead of the Hong Kong E-Prix, emerging as the fastest runner in the 45-minute session.
The Nissan e.dams driver set a fastest time of a 1m 09.283s in what was a wet session, with Andre Lotterer emerging as his nearest challenger, 0.370s off the pace to front a DS Techeetah 2-3 result, with Jean-Eric Vergne setting the third fastest time.
Season Two champion Sebastien Buemi secured the fourth fastest time in the session in the second Nissan e.dams entry while Daniel Abt emerged as the lead Audi driver to complete the top five, 0.673s adrift of Rowland's best lap.
Robin Frijns, who tapped the wall in the closing stages of the session, set the sixth fastest time for Envision Virgin Racing, heading GEOX Dragon's Jose Maria Lopez who was seventh.
HWA Racelab's Gary Paffett, who stopped out on track in the closing stages of the session, cemented a place inside the top 10 in practice by setting the eighth fastest time for the Mercedes-Benz affiliated squad, taking the chequered flag as the eighth fastest runner while Alexander Sims and Edoardo Mortara completed the top 10 for BMW i Andretti Motorsport and Venturi.
Stoffel Vandoorne was 11th fastest runner in the session to edge ahead of Sam Bird who was 12th after making contact with the barriers, with NIO's Tom Dillmann, Venturi's Felipe Massa and Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans completing 13th-15th.
Nelson Piquet Jr ended up as the 16th fastest runner in the second Jaguar I-TYPE 3, with Lucas di Grassi, Felipe Nasr, Antonio Felix da Costa, Pascal Wehrlein, Jerome d'Ambrosio and Oliver Turvey completing the field.
