When Brad Keselowski won the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Feb. 24, he broke at tie he shared with racing legend Mark Donohue for most wins as a driver for Roger Penske across all forms of motorsport. To celebrate, Keselowski will wear a helmet reminscent of Donohue's yellow helmet in the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Keselowski referenced the helmet in his victory lane interview at Atlanta.
“Now I get to wear that yellow Mark Donohue helmet,” Keselowski said. “[NASCAR broadcaster Matt] Yocum has been on me about it. Now I can, Matt, so here we go; we’re going to wear it next week.”
On Wednesday, Team Penske tweeted a photo the specially-designed helmet.
“Last weekend @Keselowski passed Mark Donohue as the all time win leader at Team Penske,” the tweet [@Team_Penske] read. “This weekend, in honor of Donohue, he’ll wear a helmet at @LVMotorSpeedway with the same design as the Team Penske great.”
Keselowski's win at Atlantta was his 60th win for Team Penske across the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Those 60 wins include 27 in the Cup Series and 33 in the Xfinity Series since joining Penske ahead of the 2010 season. In his first year with Team Penske, Keselowski became the first driver on the team to win a NASCAR championship, doing so in the Xfinity Series. He gave car owner Roger Penske his first Cup Series championship as a car owner in 2012.
Donohue raced in several series for Penske between the late-1960s and mid-1970s winning in USRRC, Trans-Am, IROC, Can-Am, IndyCar and NASCAR. He also contested Formula One for Penske before a fatal practice crash in preparation for the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix.
