Yamaha has ‘found nothing’ with electronics – Maverick Vinales

Maverick Vinales says Yamaha has “still found nothing” with the M1's electronics to improve acceleration in the Qatar MotoGP pre-season test.

Yamaha struggled across the 2018 campaign with poor acceleration, with the marque scoring just one win courtesy of Vinales at Phillip Island last October.

While a new engine has improved acceleration, Vinales admitted after Sunday's running Yamaha has yet to find any gains in this area with its electronics, and complained he was still losing “quite a lot” coming out of the corners.

“I'm quite happy, I feel we did good improvements during the day,” said second-fastest Vinales.

“It was important to feel a little bit more the bike, try to find a new set-up to go faster. I think that job is done.

“But anyway, it's not enough. We lose quite a lot on the top speed, on the acceleration, so we have a lot of things to do on Monday to try to improve.

“I think the track was not great, I hope we can find a little bit better grip. But at the moment, the grip level for me is quite low and we are in the front.

“I think this is very important. It's going to be important to improve the acceleration because today we lose a lot in sector four and one.

“Still we didn't find nothing on the electronics to improve the acceleration, so I'm really looking forward to working hard on Monday to try to improve that.”

Team-mate Valentino Rossi was left frustrated as he too struggled with rear grip on his way to 19th on the timesheets, and felt he was “always too slow” with every set-up change Yamaha made.

“Sunday was more difficult. I struggled more, especially with the rear grip,” he said.

“On Saturday we had a base setting, I was not so bad. On Sunday we tried to improve, we tried some different settings, but also some different materials.

“Unfortunately we didn't improve. It was a difficult day, I was always too slow, so we're not happy.

“On Monday we'll try to follow some other directions, to be more competitive.
