Marc Marquez topped the timesheets in the first Assen MotoGP practice session despite an early crash at Turn 15 when he looked in visible pain with his hand.

The Spaniard lapped an impressive 1.32.216s, three tenths clear of Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales.

Marco Bezzecchi secured third for Aprilia as three different manufacturers occupied the top three in the classification charts.

Francesco Bagnaia finished the session four tenths adrift off his team-mate, but is right in the mix from the get go.

Fabio Di Giannantonio and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo claimed fifth and sixth, ahead of current championship runners-up Alex Marquez.

Johann Zarco finished the session as the top Honda rider in eighth, with the Frenchman, Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Rins all separated by only 0.008s.

Pedro Acosta finished 11th for factory KTM, ahead of Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez and the second VR46 Ducati rider of Franco Morbidelli.

Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira secured 14th and 15th for Pramac Yamaha, as both riders produced quicker laps than their Honda rival Joan Mir.

Enea Bastianini and Lorenzo Savadori occupied 17th and 18th place for Tech3 KTM and Aprilia, with rookie Ai Ogura finishing behind the test rider.

Brad Binder slotted his KTM in a surprise 20th place, finishing ahead of Honda test rider Aleix Espargaro and full-time LCR Honda rider Somkiat Chantra.
