Rosberg: ‘I had hoped for more from 2010’

Nico Rosberg has admitted he is disappointed with his 2010 campaign, despite outscoring his team-mate by more than double.

The German says he expected more from the year when he left Williams to join the current world championship team, Brawn GP, then rebranded Mercedes.

“It has been a two-sided season,” he told AutoSprint magazine. “On one hand there is the comparison to my team-mate. In this regard I am very happy,” Rosberg said in view of his 122 points compared to Michael Schumacher’s 54.

“But if we look at the overall results, I have to honestly say that I had hoped for more.”

At first Rosberg was skeptical about competing against Schumacher, a long-term friend of Ross Brawn, but admitted things had gone well within the team.

“When I signed with Mercedes, I was firmly convinced that Button would be my team-mate,” said the 25-year-old. “When I heard that Jenson was to leave the team, I was hoping for an experienced and strong team-mate. As such, I was naturally very happy when we undertook Schumacher.

“On the other hand, I did not quite know what to expect. I didn’t know Michael as a person, but I knew that he maintained a friendship with Ross Brawn. I had no idea whether this would affect my situation at the team. Instead everything has gone for the best.”
