Full-scale LEGO Renault F1 car to be auctioned for charity

It's the ultimate toy! A full-scale Renault Formula 1 constructed from LEGO bricks will be auctioned in Paris next month, with all proceeds going to charity UNICEF.

The car, based on Renault's R.S.17 from the 2017 F1 season, was constructed using 313,000 bricks and is built around a metal structure. It is equipped with four (real, not LEGO) soft Pirelli tyres and a replica steering wheel (again, real, not LEGO).

The project was a collaboration between the Renault F1 Team and LEGO, and was originally unveiled in late 2017 at the L'Atelier Renault – a store on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The car is estimated to fetch between €30,000-50,000 with the auction taking place on February 10.

Also up for auction are a set of full-scale driver figures made 100 per cent from LEGO and standing 160cm tall – clearly not modelled on Nico Hulkenberg, the tallest driver on the grid, who stands at 184cm (6ft).

If LEGO isn't your thing, a Renault Formula E showcar based on the Spark-Renault SRT 01E, which was used for the first four seasons of the all-electric single-seater series, is also up for auction.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with an engine, hence the estimated auction price of €10,000-20,000.
