Karun Chandhok is expecting the gap between the title contenders to decrease dramatically come Korea, thanks to the circuit’s sector one playing into the hands of Ferrari and McLaren.
The Indian driver is the only person to have driven the circuit in a Formula One car, albeit on an uncompleted surface, and expects the grip to be very low, whilst the straights will be the Red Bull’s major weakness.
“It’s going to be very slippery, very low grip, I would imagine,” he told Reuters.
“The Red Bull is quick everywhere. But I think here, specifically though the first sector of the lap with the three long straights, they may not be as quick as some of the others. Ferrari and McLaren will be strong.”
Even a Red Bull 1-2 in qualifying won’t be enough to stop another driver sneaking a win, believes Chandhok.
“Even if the Red Bulls qualify one-two, it will be interesting to see because of the long straights in sector one if they hold that advantage into turn four on the first lap.
“I do think the gap will be closer…I think the gap will be close enough that if Alonso or Lewis or Jenson dig deep they could sneak a win out of it.”
