Renault Sport Academy youngster Max Fewtrell will graduate to the FIA Formula 3 Championship this year, completing ART Grand Prix’s line-up.

Fewtrell claimed last year’s Formula Renault Eurocup title, beating fellow Renault protégé Christian Lundgaard, and will retain backing from the manufacturer.

Fewtrell has now secured a place in ART’s team in the new-for-2019 Formula 3 series, alongside Lundgaard and multiple GP3 race winner David Beckmann.

“I’m very proud to remain with the Renault Sport Academy this season and I can’t wait to get back to racing,” he said.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without Renault’s support but I know there’s a long way to go in my career and a lot more targets I have to reach.

“I look forward to continuing the hard work with the Academy and growing the connection with the Formula 1 team.

“Racing in Formula 3 will be interesting and it’s a very competitive category, but I relish the challenge and I will be putting the work in to be prepared.”

Renault’s retention of Fewtrell completes its six-strong 2019 Academy line-up.

Guan Yu Zhou, Anthoine Hubert, Caio Collet, Victor Martins, Lundgaard and Fewtrell will be part of its scheme.

It means that Jack Aitken – who was part of the scheme since its revival in 2016 and last year sampled F1 machinery – has been dropped, along with Sacha Fenestraz, Arthur Rougier and Sun Yue Yang.
