Alex Lowes reflected on his “special” maiden podium finish for Bimota in the WorldSBK championship at Misano.

Bimota announced its return to the WorldSBK series at the start of 2025, partnering with Kawasaki and contributing by producing the chassis for the team.

The Rimini-based outfit secured its first WorldSBK podium since the turn of the new milenneium as Lowes finished second in the Superpole race.

Lowes credited the result to his team and stated that the test prior to the race weekend played a pivotal role in helping Bimota secure the rostrum finish.

“Really happy with the Superpole Race. Track position is so important,” Lowes said to WorldSBK: Turn 1 was unfortunate but then I got good position behind Toprak [Razgatlioglu], put in two or three good laps and got a bit of a gap.

“The last three laps were a long three laps! I was looking at the crowd and thinking about everything other than what I should’ve been thinking about.

“Really happy for the team, they deserve it. To get a podium is a good sign of our progress. Having the test here really helped.

“It’s very special because it’s changed a lot, with the Italian input, the guys from Bimota are here. I think it makes it more special because the factory is so close.”

The Lincolnshire star explained that admitted that to achieve a podium result so soon into the new project is “the best part of the story.”

“When you’re involved in the project from last year, rode the bike quite early in the development, I feel attached to the bike so to come to their home track, achieve a podium against the opposition we’re racing against that have been competitive for quite a few years, it’s a nice feeling because it’s the best part of the story.

“In racing, you always want to keep doing better, but it’s important to realise we’ve got the first podium here and we have to enjoy it.”

Lowes’ successful weekend on the Adriatic coast meant he leapfrogged Honda HRC duo Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge in the standings, climbing to seventh place overall.
