Jerome Stoll stays on as Renault Sport President after Thierry Koskas leaves

Renault Sport has announced that Jerome Stoll will continue as President after planned replacement Thierry Koskas departed the manufacturer.

It was announced last November that Stoll, 64, would step down, with Vice President of Sales and Marketing Koskas taking over on January 1.

But on Friday Renault revealed that Koskas has left Groupe Renault and instead Stoll will remain in his role as President.

No reason was given for Koskas’ departure.

Koskas was supposed to report to CEO and Chairman Carlos Ghosn but Renault is understood to be on the brink of axing the embattled Ghosn.

Ghosn was arrested in Japan last November on charges relating to under-reporting his salary and passing personal investment losses onto Nissan.

The establishment of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance meant Ghosn held leading positions at all three manufacturers.

Both Nissan and Mitsubishi sacked Ghosn as the scandal unfolded last November but Renault, in which the French government holds the largest stake, at 15 per cent, kept hold of his services.

Ghosn appeared in court in Tokyo earlier this week and insisted he had been “wrongly accused and unfairly detained,” but was denied bail, meaning he is likely to remain incarcerated for several months as he awaits trial.

French media has reported that Renault is to meet on Sunday to determine a successor (or successors) to Ghosn.
