Ben Barnicoat will return to the driver’s seat at the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Watkins Glen Six Hours with Vasser Sullivan in GTD Pro.

The Six Hours of the Glen is the third IMSA Endurance Cup race of the 2025 schedule, taking place on 29 June.

The Lexus factory driver and 2023 GTD Pro class champion appeared in a pre-event media press conference before his cycling accident injured him days before the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Three months have elapsed since the Sebring event was on 13-15 March, and Barnicoat was unable to participate in the two further IMSA races at Laguna Seca and Detroit for Vasser Sullivan.

Fellow Vasser Sullivan team-mate Jack Hawksworth is replacing him in Akkodis ASP’s #78 Lexus RC F LMGT3 at this week’s fourth FIA World Endurance Championship round, the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 14-15 June.

Barnicoat entered the Qatar 1812 km season-opener two weeks before his injury, but missed the 6 Hours of Imola and the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

This is the fourth consecutive year the 28-year-old has driven with Vasser Sullivan in what is likely to be the final season with the RC F package.

He finished fourth in last year’s rain-soaked Watkins Glen race with Hawsworth, missing out on the final podium spot taken by the #3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R drivers Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims.

Vasser Sullivan entered both of their Lexus machines at the previous races in Long Beach and Detroit, where the only GT classes were either GTD or GTD Pro, where Vasser Sullivan have one car in each category.

After his lengthy recovery period, Barnicoat’s return to the wheel is eagerly anticipated as a key protagonist in the GTD Pro category.
