Factory Ducati rider Marc Marquez dominated proceedings to top the opening Silverstone MotoGP practice session.

The Spaniard laid down a marker to the rest of his competitors, setting the fastest time of 1.58.702s, which put him 0.365s clear of second-placed finisher Franky Morbidelli.

The Italian rider posted his best lap time on his final run to elevate himself ahead of Gresini’s Alex Marquez, who rounded off the top three.

Marco Bezzecchi occupied fourth for the factory Aprilia, which is notoriously strong at Silverstone, finishing only a few tenths behind the Ducatis.

Jack Miller finished the session as the lead Yamaha rider to take fifth, bettering the lap time of Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales.

Fabio Quartararo secured seventh place for the factory Yamaha outfit, with the Frenchman producing stronger lap times than his old championship rival Francesco Bagnaia.

Alex Rins ensured three Yamaha riders finished inside the top ten positions, and Pedro Acosta completed his first practice in 10th.

Fermin Aldeguer finished a second adrift in 11th place, but his quickest lap put him only 0.030s quicker than Fabio Di Giannantonio and Honda’s Joan Mir.

Johann Zarco sandwiched both factory Honda riders before Brad Binder and the Trackhouse duo of Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura lapped half a second adrift.

2024 British Grand Prix winner Enea Bastianini finished two seconds off the pace in 19th place, finishing ahead of Pramac Yamaha rider Miguel Oliveira.

Aleix Espargaro occupied 21st place on his second Honda wildcard outing, but still finished quicker than full-time Honda rider Somkiat Chantra and Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori.
