Ahmad Al Harthy of the #46 WRT BMW M4 LMGT3 Evo enjoyed fighting with his team-mate from last year, Darren Leung, during the 6 Hours of Spa.
The Omani driver started in ninth in the 18-car LMGT3 field, thus spoke to Motorsport Week after the race:
“It was a strong opening, a few laps for me, and then once everything settled down, we managed to just keep pushing and take advantage of the other things that happening in front and really capitalise on mistakes because it was very difficult to pass.
“Once we were able to go into a rhythm and drive into the first pit stops, a lot of people were, I think, their energy levels had gone, while we were in a better situation.
“And we really did all the hard work in the pits to come out leading, [which] was something we didn’t expect, and I think from there we kept pushing.
“It’s unfortunate what happened with the drive-through (for pit lane speeding), and we’re gonna understand exactly why that happened.
“… It is very disappointing to go and finish where we started, to be honest.
“It’s days like these that we hope everybody can learn from. “
Where I was, I think it was some good wheel-to-wheel [racing].
“We don’t expect people to open doors or close doors on you, but to race correctly.
“I think one of the toughest ones for me is obviously when I had Darren, my ex-teammate, and he didn’t give me any [ease], but I saw him after the race, and it was something that we both enjoyed doing. It’s proper racing.
Al Harthy, Valentino Rossi and Kelvin van der Linde finished ninth, unable to match their podium performance at Imola.
