Sebastian Vettel has been summoned to see the stewards following the conclusion of qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix after "destroying" the FIA's weighbridge.
The Ferrari driver had been called at random to the weighbridge scales just as rain began to fall at the Interlagos circuit at the start of the second qualifying session.
Keen to get the process done as quickly as possible, Vettel refused to turn his engine off which compromised the procedure and he then broke the scales as he drove away, according to a statement from the FIA's technical delegate Jo Bauer.
"During the second Qualifying session at 15:27hrs, the driver of car number 05, when called for weighing, refused to turn off the engine.
"The car was pushed onto the scales and weighed with running engine, which makes it difficult to get a stable result.
"After weighing the driver drove off the scales under its own power, and by doing so, he destroyed the scales. As the driver was not following the instructions and further compromised the continuation of the weighing procedure, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration."
Vettel easily progressed through to Q3 despite the delay and qualified second behind Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.
