Ed Carpenter Racing has confirmed Ed Jones will join the team for the 2019 IndyCar season in partnership with Scuderia Corsa.

The 23-year old Jones will replace the outgoing Jordan King in the #20 entry to partner Spencer Pigot for a part-time set in 2019, competing in 13 out of 17 events across the season.

Jones had left Chip Ganassi Racing after Felix Rosenqvist displaced the British-Emirati driver in the #10 NTT Data car following a tough 2018 season.

Team owner Ed Carpenter confirmed in September when confirming Pigot's extension with the team he will run on the oval circuits in 2019.

“Joining Ed Carpenter Racing and Scuderia Corsa for the 2019 IndyCar Series is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of!” said Jones.

“Both ECR and Scuderia Corsa have been successful in their respective series and I feel the combination of forces will be greatly beneficial. I’m extremely excited to get underway!

“Ed Carpenter Racing has shown amazing speed the last few years at the Indianapolis 500. You can always expect the ECR cars to be at the front.

“I am really grateful for this chance and will do everything I can to make sure we, as a team, make the most of it!”

Jones will get the opportunity to compete at the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 as Scuderia Corsa and ECR will prepare the #64 car for him to run at the prestigious event in 2019.

Scuderia Corsa made their first foray into the IndyCar series after running at the 2018 Indianapolis 500 with veteran Oriol Servia behind the wheel of the #64 entry with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

The Spaniard ran well in the race before having to make a late pit-stop on lap 194, eventually crossing the line in 17th place.

“As we expand our racing efforts in the IndyCar Series I couldn’t think of anyone better than Ed Jones and Ed Carpenter Racing. We are thrilled to join them!” added Giacomo Mattioli, Scuderia Corsa Team Principal.

Team owner and Driver Ed Carpenter also added: “I am very excited to welcome Ed Jones to the ECR family, as well as Scuderia Corsa and Giacomo.

“I was very surprised when Ed became available at the end of the season. I look forward to working together to get ECR back in Victory Lane!”
