Andrea Dovizioso topped MotoGP FP3 in Thailand, while Marc Marquez will face Q1 for the second time this season after a late crash.

Dovizioso took over top spot in the closing moments on his Ducati, while a crash at Turn 4 on his final flying lap and a late improvement from Alvaro Bautista dropped Marquez to 11th.

Marquez set the early pace with a 1:31.297s on his Honda, while Suzuki's Alex Rins was the first improver on the combined standings in seventh, which put him just 0.035s outside of Marquez's lap on the individual times.

With 14 minutes of the session gone, Marquez usurped Dovizioso's Friday best with a 1:31.079s to go almost three tenths clear of the field.

Dovizioso would close the Honda's rider's advantage down to 0.190s as the session entered its final quarter, with Marquez coming under threat from Pramac's Jack Miller just moments later.

Miller took over top spot with a 1:30.998s, before extending his lead from 0.081s to over half a second with a 1:30.566s.

LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow moved up to second minutes later, missing Miller's time by 0.153s, but it would not be until the dying stages when Miller was deposed.

With just over two minutes to go, Dovizioso hooked up a lap of 1:30.399s which put him top of the standings, and would remain unbeaten when the chequered flag brought the session to a close.

Marquez found himself shuffled back to eighth as the session neared its conclusion, and was dropped into 11th when Bautista leaped up to 10th with a 1:31.015s.

Quick enough through sector one to get into Q2, a fast tumble at Turn 4 halted his progress and will see him contest Q1 for only the fourth time in his career.

Miller held onto second with his 1:30.566s, while Maverick Vinales continued to display strong form on the Yamaha in third ahead of Crutchlow and Pramac's Danilo Petrucci.

Dani Pedrosa lifted himself into the top 10 late in sixth on his Honda ahead of the sister Yamaha of Valentino Rossi, while Andrea Iannone [Suzuki], Johann Zarco [Tech3] and Bautista completed the top 10.

Marquez will be joined in Q1 by the fellow Honda rider Franco Morbidelli, who missed a place in the top 10 by a tenth, while the KTM pairing of Bradley Smith and the injured Pol Espargaro also missed a Q2 shot by just over a tenth.

Ducati's Jorge Lorenzo confirmed ahead of FP3 he would be taking no further part in this weekend's action after suffering a hairline fracture in his left wrist in a monster highside crash in FP2 on Friday.
