Marc Marquez says the incident which led to Jorge Lorenzo's crash at Turn 1 during the MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix was “nothing out of the ordinary”, after Lorenzo blamed him for his crash.
Lorenzo was forced out slightly wide at the first corner at the start of the Aragon race last month, and highsided as he applied the throttle on the dirty part of the circuit, injuring his foot as a result.
The Ducati rider sensationally pinned the blame for the incident on eventual race winner Marquez, claiming the Honda man deliberately “destroyed” his race and his foot.
Lorenzo revealed Marquez called him to see how he was on the Monday after, though the Ducati rider's opinion on the clash remains unchanged, while his future Honda teammate branded it a “racing incident”.
“I already speak with him on the phone on Monday, just to ask about his physical conditions because I care about my future teammate,” said Marquez, who holds a 72-point lead in the championship.
“ But apart from that, he had his opinion, I had my one. Nothing out of the ordinary. First corner, racing incident, I don't lose time to speak about it.”
When told Lorenzo still blamed him for the incident, Marquez added that this was not the case when he phoned him.
“No, I speak with him and he don't say the same. I care more about telephone, so it's ok.”
Lorenzo declared fit to ride in Thailand
Lorenzo suffered a dislocated big toe and compound fracture of the second metatarsal in his right foot in the crash, which immediately plunged his Thailand participation into doubt.
Declaring last week he would attempt to ride at Buriram, Lorenzo passed a medical test at the circuit on Thursday, but admits he does not have “a lot of hope” of being competitive.
“Well, injury is not easy, it's not easy because tomorrow when I push my foot into the peddle of the bike tomorrow it will be tough,” he said.
“So I don't have a lot of hope to be very well on the bike, but every day, little by little, the pain will improve.
“But I don't want to make any conclusions until I see how I feel when I jump on the bike. Probably it's the worst track to be injured, because of what happened in the pre-season, I was having some difficulties to be competitive here.
“Everything has changed, now we are much better than some months ago, now we are much more competitive.
“But for sure, the injury will not help me to be quick. But as I said, let's see tomorrow in the FP1 and the we will know.”
