Haas retains Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean for 2019 F1 season

Haas has confirmed that it will field an unchanged line-up in Formula 1 next season, retaining Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.

Grosjean has been with Haas since it joined the Formula 1 roster prior to the 2016 season while Magnussen replaced Esteban Gutierrez for 2017, following previous stints at McLaren and Renault.

Grosjean was under pressure earlier in the season amid a sequence of mistakes and setbacks that meant he failed to score across the opening eight Grands Prix.

But he has since returned to the top 10 on a regular basis, including taking fourth in Austria and classifying sixth in Germany and Italy, prior to being excluded for a technical irregularity.

Magnussen, meanwhile, has repeatedly expressed how remaining with the same Formula 1 team for two successive seasons has allowed him to flourish, having been one of the standout midfielders.

Magnussen has scored points in eight Grands Prix, peaking with fifth in Bahrain and Austria, to hold ninth in the championship.

Haas’ retention of Grosjean and Magnussen means it is poised to be one of only two teams, along with Mercedes, to enter 2019 with an unchanged driver line-up.

“It’s impressive to see what this team has accomplished in such a relatively short time, and for someone who has been here since the very beginning, I take a lot of pride in the time, effort and sacrifice we’ve all put forth to make Haas so competitive,” Grosjean said.

“I’m very happy to continue with Haas and represent Haas Automation and all of our partners. Gene Haas has built something very special – something we can make even better – and it’s an honour to be a part of it.”

Added Magnussen: “I’ve never been in a better situation than the one I’m in here at Haas.

"This is a team filled with racers and we’re all striving for the same thing. There’s no bureaucracy and everything is very straightforward.

"Gene Haas is all about efficiency, and he and Guenther Steiner have created a very efficient environment that gets the best from its people. We all believe in each other and that’s why we’ve achieved as much as we have.”

Haas holds fifth position in this year's Constructors' Championship, an improvement of three places compared to its 2016/17 ranking.
