Marcel Schrotter topped the combined Moto2 standings at the end of Moto2 practice for the Aragon Grand Prix, after setting the best pace in FP1.

Intact GP's Schrotter led the opening session after a late charge for top spot with a 1:53.570s, and enjoyed an advantage of 0.184s over the field.

MotoGP-bound Fabio Quartararo set the early pace in FP1 on the Speed Up machine with a 1:53.915s, though soon found championship leader Francesco Bagnaia [Sky Racing VR46] demoting him by just under a tenth and a half.

Bagnaia's 1:53.754s stood as the benchmark for some time, with Schrotter the only one to beat the Italian's effort with a 1:53.570s with eight minutes remaining.

Schrotter and Bagnaia came under minimal threat as the session drew to a close, with Sam Lowes – whose last grand prix win and podium came at Aragon in Moto2 in 2016 – completing the top three on his CGBM Evolution KTM.

Quartararo was just over a hundredth outside of the Briton's time in fourth, with Alex Marquez [Marc VDS] and Mattia Pasini [Italtrans] rounding out the top six.

With track temperatures the hottest they had been all day for the second 45-minute intermediate class session, the order was mostly set in the opening stages of FP2.

Italtrans' Andrea Locatelli set the early pace with a 1:54.000s, before Bagnaia eased ahead of with a 1:53.784s moments later.

Several late improvements saw a few spots in the top 10 change hands, most notably from Marquez, who leaped up to second with a time just 0.058s outside of Bagnaia's best.

This put Marquez third overall, while Schrotter – who was 12th in FP2 – held onto top spot ahead of Bagnaia, while 10th-placed Lowes was fourth on the combined standings.

Eighth in FP2, Quartararo remained fifth on the combined table, with Mattia Pasini, Brad Binder, Locatelli, Corsi and Miguel Oliveira rounding out the top 10 on the overall timesheets.

Both Forward Racing riders Stefan Manzi and Isaac Vinales suffered falls on Friday, with the former crashing at Turn 7 in FP1, while Vinales tipped off in the afternoon. Speed Up's Danny Kent and CGBM Evolution's Iker Lecuona also fell in FP2.
