The FIA handed out several penalties after qualifying, all of which were monetary fines bar two.

Felipe Massa would have incurred a grid drop of ten places for changing his engine, although as he qualified 24th he can’t be demoted any further, therefore he will start last.

The Lotus team were reprimanded for an unsafe release of Jarno Trulli into the path of Lucas di Grassi. The release wasn’t deemed dangerous enough for a penalty.

It was a different story for the Sauber team. Nick Heidfeld, on his return, incurred a £12,600 ($20,000) fine after he was released into the path of seven time world champion Michael Schumacher during qualifying two.

Christian Klien, also on his return to F1, was handed two fines, both for speeding. He exceeded the 62 km/h pit-lane limit on two occasions, 92.5 km/h and 88.2 km/h resulting in fines of £5,600 and £5,000 respectively.

Bruno Senna also suffered the same fate when the FIA caught him speeding at 97.4 km/h, 35.4 km/h over the limit – a fine of £6,400 was his discipline.

Timo Glock was the third man caught speeding, a £2,900 fine was his penalty for breaking the limit by 14.6 km/h.
