Spencer Pigot will remain behind the wheel of the #21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet for a second full season in 2019 season after penning a new deal with the team.

The American driver debuted for ECR at the first round of the Detroit Grand Prix in 2016; he did not take part in the oval races in 2016 as he shared racing duties with team owner Ed Carpenter.

He did eventually get his first taste of oval racing with Juncos Racing in 2017 at the Indianapolis 500 where he finished in 20th place.

In 2018, Pigot had a tough start to the year, but his results have steadily improved since where his best finish of the season so far came at the Iowa Corn 300 clinching second place behind Schmidt Peterson's James Hinchcliffe.

“I’m extremely happy to be returning to Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2019 season!" said Pigot.

"I have to thank Ed Carpenter, Stuart Reed and Tony George for giving me the opportunity to race for their team once again.

"I’m honoured to represent our great partners of Fuzzy’s Vodka, Preferred Freezer Services, Direct Supply, Autogeek and everyone else that makes this possible.

"It’s been great to compete in my first full season of Indy car racing this year and I look forward to building on that next year.

"We have a lot to look back on and learn from; we will be working hard over the offseason and will be able to hit the ground running when we get to next season’s opener in St. Pete!”

ECR will continue to field the No. 20, which this year is being piloted by Carpenter on ovals and rookie Jordan King on street/road courses, but has yet to confirm the identity of its occupant(s).

"I am really happy to have Spencer back in the No. 21 for the 2019 season. We have always believed that Spencer has the potential to compete for race wins and championships and he has really shown that in the back half of this season," added Carpenter.

"Hopefully we can break through this weekend at the season finale and get ECR back in the win column!"
