Francesco Bagnaia dominated for Moto2 San Marino Grand Prix victory to extend his championship lead, while title rival Miguel Oliveira was second.
Poleman Bagnaia ran side by side with Marcel Schrotter on the run to the first corner at the start, and repelled the Intact GP rider's advances to take the lead.
Mattia Pasini muscled his way through on Binder and Schrotter by lap two to take second, and began to eat into Bagnaia's one-second lead.
The Italtrans rider was able to reduce his deficit by a couple of tenths, but Bagnaia was able to get his lead back up to a second and maintained it until Pasini began to drop off the pace in the latter stages.
Pasini's drop-off allowed Oliveira to reel in the Italian, with the KTM rider moving into second with eight laps remaining, while Schrotter through at Turn 3 two tours later.
Schrotter shadowed Oliveira for the remaining laps, and launched a daring raid on the Portuguese rider's second place at the Carro hairpin.
Both ran wide, but Oliveira emerged from the corner in second to keep dominant race-winner Bagnaia's points championship lead at just eight points.
Schrotter completed the podium for his maiden grand prix rostrum appearance, while Pasini held Marc VDS' Joan Mir at bay to keep fourth spot.
Mir did take the place from Pasini a couple of laps before, but was forced to relinquish the position for exceeding track limits too many times.
Lorenzo Baldassarri made his way up from 13th on the grid to complete the top six ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Binder, while Jorge Navarro and the injured Xavi Vierge rounded out the top 10.
The sister Marc VDS of Alex Marquez was involved in a collision with Pons' Augusto Fernandez at Carro on lap one. Both rejoined, though Fernandez soon pulled out, while Marquez took the chequered flag in 18th.
Romano Fenati [Marinelli Snipers] was disqualified late on for irresponsible riding, after he drew alongside Stefan Manzi – with whom he had an earlier tangle – and touched the Forwaard rider's brake lever on the run into Quercia.
Sam Lowes, Tetsuta Nagashima, Danny Kent and wildcard Sheridan Morais were the other fallers, while Luca Marini was forced to pull out of his home race with a mechanical issue.
