IndyCar has confirmed a 17-round calendar for the 2019 season which will see the of Circuit Of The Americas join the schedule for the very first time.

The Texas circuit predominantly used for Formula 1, MotoGP and WEC events will join the IndyCar schedule after months of negotiations, the event will be run on March 24 around the full road course layout, two weeks after the traditional season-opener in St.Petersberg on March 10.

Laguna Seca has also been confirmed to re-join the calendar for the first time since 2004 and will replace Sonoma as the event which will host the final race of the season.

After the two opening rounds at St.Petersberg and Circuit of the Americas, April will see the rounds at Long Beach and Barber Motorsport Park switch places on the calendar with the Grand Prix of Alabama running as the third round on April 7 before the series heads to famous streets of California for April 14.

Phoenix Raceway will no longer feature on the schedule after suffering poor attendances in recent years.

The traditional month of May will see IndyCar come home to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Grand Prix on May 11. After the race on the road course, teams will get a week of practice ahead of qualifying before the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

IndyCar's traditional doubleheader in Detroit around the famous tight and twisty Belle Isle circuit will follow the week after on June 1-2.

Texas Motor Speedway will host the series' second trip into the Lone Star state under the lights on June 8, the teams will finally get a week off racing before heading to Wisconsin to Road America at Elkhart Lake on June 23.

The series crosses the north of the border after a two-week break to the streets of Toronto on July 14, just six days later they will head to Iowa for the first short oval of the season after Phoenix's departure, as part of the triple-header, Mid-Ohio will follow up on July 28.

August and September will host the final four races as part of another triple-header with Pocono Raceway getting things underway on August 18 and the short oval of Gateway Motorsport Park just six days later on August 24.

Portland will host the penultimate race of the season on September 1 leaving a three week gap before the title-decider in California with the returning WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on September 22.
